Geoffrey Knight
Geoffrey was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire and began painting at an early age. He attended the Bradford Regional College of Art between 1964 and 1969 where he studied both lithography and landscape painting in oils. After leaving college he taught himself the disciplined technique of watercolour painting.
He took an early interest in the styles of the ‘Old Masters’, in particular George Weatherill, David Cox and of course, the renowned Joseph William Turner and has always been influenced by their application of light and dark which he likes to portray in his own work.
His passion for painting atmospheric moods of the landscape and marine has developed from his love of the Yorkshire Dales and the East Coast and his added interest in working horses is occasionally portrayed in his paintings.
in 2003 he was elected a full member of the British Watercolour Society and in 2004 was delighted to be elected a Fellow of the International Guild of Artists.
he has always been keenly interested in railways which is reflected in his paintings of steam engines and is an Associate Member of the Guild of Railway Artists.
Geoffrey still works as a lithographer but also finds fulfilment as a semi professional artist, producing work in both watercolour and oils.
